Marilyn Monroe... Part 2

"First, I'm trying to prove to myself that I'm a person. Then maybe I'll convince myself that I'm an actress. " ~Marilyn Monroe~

Gentlemen Preferred Marilyn
Orphaned early in life, Marilyn Monroe worked for everything she got. After moving to Hollywood she was signed by Fox and let go before she knew it. Columbia gave her a 6 month contract and featured her in LADIES OF THE CHORUS. Next was a small part in ASPHALT JUNGLE (1950) and ALL ABOUT EVE (1950). You know the rest. Marilyn Monroe went on to become the most famous actress in the world. In the classic film GENTLEMEN PREFER BLONDES (1953) she wore this fancy sapphire stunner. Sizes 5-9.

The incredible life and times of Marilyn Monroe touched us all. Her beauty and talent often masked the real Marilyn but a lot can be gleaned from some of her more famous quotes. For example, one that is very telling about Ms. Monroe...."No one ever told me I was pretty when I was a little girl. All little girls should be told they're pretty, even if they aren't." However, when she was told she wasn't the star of GENTLEMEN PREFER BLONDES (1953) she was quoted saying "Well whatever I am, I'm still the blonde." Well, if she wasn't, her gorgeous diamond ring was.

Marilyn Monroe is probably the most celebrated actress of all time. Overcoming a very difficult childhood she went on to become a star in every kind of role offered to her. From her comedic gem of a performance in SOME LIKE IT HOT (1959) to her musical comedy turn in GENTLEMEN PREFER BLONDES (1953) Marilyn never let us down. In the last film of her career, THE MISFITS (1961) Marilyn was determined to show just how good an actress she could be. One of the most telling Marilyn quotes predicted her life perfectly... "I used to think as I looked at the Hollywood night, 'There must be thousands of girls dreaming of becoming a movie star. But I'm not gonna worry about them. I'm dreaming the hardest." This beautiful pair of diamond and pearl earrings was worn by Marilyn in THE LOVE NEST (1951).
